Patented TitanCare® TT Nanotechnology –

The patented TitanCare® TT nanotechnology consists of titanium dioxide nanoparticles attached to silver nanoparticles. Both substances have antibacterial and germicidal properties. This composition allows the substance to dissolve in water, therefore no further binding, adhesive or solvent is required. By using water as carrier material, TitanCare® TT is non-toxic and easy to handle. Different coating systems, such as dipping, spraying, etc. are therefore suitable for the application of the material.

The combination of the two nanoparticles allows a wide range of applications, since the coated surface exhibits both antibacterial and antiviral effects under the influence of light as well as under light. The biggest difference to existing coatings based on titanium dioxide is that the titanium dioxide has a higher photocatalytic effect by combining with the nanosilver particles. This is due to the fact that the silver particles act as an electron trap and store the electrons split off by the photocatalytic process and thus prevent recombination.

In addition, based on the surface plasmon resonance, it has been possible to shift the reactive wavelength into the visible range.
TitanCare® TT coated surface is ionically charged, resulting in refraction of the cell membranes.

Technology components

  • Titanium dioxide is a semiconductor and works as a photocatalyst under the action of light of a certain wavelength. The photocatalytic effect occurs when photons with an energy greater than the band gap of titanium dioxide (in this case anatase with 3.2 eV band gap) strike the material. In this case, electron-hole pairs are generated, which diffuse to the surface and form free radicals there. These free radicals are highly oxidative and capable of decomposing organic matter.
  • The antimicrobial effect of nanosilver is based on released silver cations, which attack the cell metabolism of bacteria and thus inhibit their multiplication. The arrangement of the nanoparticles increases the surface of the coated workpiece by a multiple. As a result, the reactive surface of the positioned nanoparticles is greatly increased, thus increasing the mode of action.

ATP-Test of our TitanCare® TT Technology
